Polio Update
Past District Governor Brian Thompson (Whitby Sunrise) will discuss highlights of the history of polio from the perspective of the West, from the late 19th Century onward – a stark reminder of how serious this disease is, how Rotary has led the way in eradicating it, and why we have to finish what we started.
Brian earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto. He worked as a professional engineer and a public relations officer in the nuclear energy industry, specializing in public education and government relations.
A Rotarian since 1980, he served as District 7070 Governor in 2014-15. A long-time James Bond fan, his message, as Agent Double Seven-O, included a reminder that we have a licence to kill polio.
Brian is married to Karen, a retired nurse. They have two grown children and five grandchildren, in whom they delight.
