Blake Holton
Thanked people who donated to Justine McElroy, her husband Dwayne and their new baby. After an industrial accident, falling 30 feet from a sky lift, Dwayne is unable to work. At the same time the couple's small child has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing surgeries, chemotherapy and numerous medical appointments.  Paul Racine had the donations go through the Port Hope and District Health Care Foundation – so people will get a tax receipt.
Blake also suggested the club could have a member sit on the Port Hope concert and dinner fundraising committee. It involves four, one hour meetings at most. The committee decides the logistics of the evening, and every club that sells the tickets get funds. It could be an easy way to fundraise. Blake offered to attend the meetings.
The board will discuss at the next meeting.

Cathy introduced Janet Irving, executive director of Northumberland County Community Counselling Centre. The centre has been a United Way member agency since 2009. Janet came to the centre three years ago.
She grew up in northern Ontario and has an education background. She was also educational assistant for the Children’s Aid.

Janet Irving  spoke about how mental health deserves the same attention as physical health. More and more this reality is becoming true. In some cases it is more important than physical health.
The centre started in 2009 with a vision to provide local counselling services for Northumberland.  It is meant to be an efficient, easy access centre where everyone, whether able to pay  or not, can come. There are no barriers – age or payment.
There is now three week wait to be seen.
The centre treats people with mild to moderate mental illness. They support couples, families and individuals and treat depression, anxiety, grief, and family conflicts.
They look at it is a way to prevent major mental illness as type of prevention to stop things building to a call to police.
In the future they are looking at starting a youth hub with partners OPP, Highland Shores, and Rebound.
Irving noted family violence is changing – men are reporting family violence and abuse now. Treating men is a way to prevent violence against women.
The centre is connected with more than 30 partner agencies.
They partner with NHH for the walk-in mental health and are working with Cobourg Police for mental health services with officers in the off hours.
They are now on a huge upswing to trying to manage the increase in clients.

50/50 draw – $539 Helen won last week and now $24 in pot, Jack of Diamonds is now the card were looking for
Patti, Blake – Petra drew for him and got a Joker, which is a $10 win, Karen O. – no winners
