Lisa Graham

Salvation Army

Sep. 02, 2026 7:00 a.m.

Lisa Graham:  I have been in this position - Community & Family Services manager for the Port Hope office and Brighton satellite office for almost 12 years. But I've been involved with the Salvation Army my entire life. I've worked with The Salvation Army in various positions over the years in downtown Toronto, Scarborough, Montreal, Guelph and now Cobourg/Port Hope/Brighton.

I have been happily married for 28 years and have 4 adult children and 3 dogs. I grew up in Toronto, but moved to Cobourg when I got married. My involvement with the Salvation Army goes beyond my job. It is also my church. I retired after 25 years as the youth pastor. I play in the band and sing in the worship team. I'm still very involved in various ways in my church.

I joined the Port Hope Rotary club 4 years ago because I felt that what I do for a living and Rotary go hand in hand. Service above self. We want to make our communities a better place. My job, enables me to help people on an individual basis, while Rotary allows me to help my community on a larger scale.

We are honoured to have Lisa join us this morning to talk about the valuable services provided by the Salvation Army and the new initiatives coming in 2027.

Jeeniraj "JJ" Thevasagayam

New Canadian Centre

Oct. 07, 2026 7:00 a.m.
Jeeniraj "JJ" Thevasagayam is the Executive Director of the New Canadians Centre (NCC) in Peterborough, Ontario, a role he officially assumed on September 2, 2025. His appointment follows a decade of experience in the non-profit and municipal sectors, most recently serving as the Manager of Housing for the City of Peterborough.
JJ’s leadership is deeply informed by his own lived experience as a refugee. After fleeing the civil war in Sri Lanka over 30 years ago, he settled in Toronto’s Regent Park neighborhood. His early years in Canada were marked by significant challenges, including periods of homelessness and housing insecurity.
He credits local non-profit organizations with helping him find stability, an experience that motivates his professional commitment to building inclusive communities where newcomers can thrive.
